I’ve been sort of a fan of Carly Rae Jepsen for a few years, since I saw her in concert as a prelude to Mariana’s Trench. But I never really looked up many of her songs on youtube.
So if you’ve been listening to the radio lately you’ve probably heard her new song, Call Me Maybe.

It’s absolutely hilarious, and there are so many ridiculous allusions and I feel that it actually kind of relates a lot to tumblr as a whole. It pretty much focuses on this girl who reads those cheesy romance novels (you know the ones- with the half-naked guy and a girl looking like she’s about to pass out) and dreams of having a prince of her own.
So of course she moons over her superhot next-door neighbour.
Cue even more hilarious expressions and attempts at gaining the poor guy’s attention, and none of them work.
A plot twist later and she sings him a song with her garage band. But (spoilers) while she writes down her number for him, as Call Me Maybe suggests, he pulls out his and gives it to the male guitarist.

I’m not sure if it’s the complete making-a-fool-of-herself romance-fangirl that all of tumblr could be, or the blatantly obvious gay reference (and the guitarist’s expression afterwards), but I just fucking love this video.
I apologize for this rant.
Now if only I can turn my excellent visual-storyline-in-television skills to poetry.
